1 Kings 11:1 “King Solomon, however, loved many foreign women besides Pharaoh’s daughter. They were from nations about which The Lord had told the Israelites, “You must not intermarry with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods. Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love”.
Verse 4 – “As Solomon grew old, his heart was not fully devoted to The Lord his God, as the heart of his father David had been”. Verse 6 – “So Solomon did evil in the eyes of The Lord, he did not follow The Lord completely”.
In spite of the fact that Solomon was so wise and had honoured God in such an amazing way by building the magnificent Temple to His Glory, he got to a place where “he trusted in his own understanding” more than he obeyed God’s Word. His disobedience eventually led to his downfall. His heart was turned away from God with damaging consequences.
It is so easy to get to a place of complacency. Everything is going well, we are being blessed and enjoying ourselves, we get caught up in the “good things of life” and all of a sudden we find ourselves doing things that are opposed to God’s will and eventually this leads to our downfall.
Let us take heed!!! Often we think God’s instruction is there to make life difficult for us, when in fact it is for our good. Life has a way of being cruel and harsh and God’s instruction is there to protect us from the consequences. We never want to find ourselves in a place where our “hearts are turned away from God”!!! Let’s “keep our eyes on the goal” and finish our race strong – “FULLY DEVOTED TO THE LORD OUR GOD”!!!
