Revelation 21:5 (NLT)
5 And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!”
I love going on holiday, especially when we are going somewhere we haven’t been before. The excitement of the new adventure can even keep me awake at night thinking about what we are going to do. As for the boys, keeping them calm is always a challenge. The truth is, from the moment we book the new adventure, we start to think about it, plan for it, and prepare for it.
This sounds like a wedding! Ever seen a bride-to-be when she gets engaged? Frenetic! From the moment she gets that ring on her finger, she starts to plan her wedding day. There is so much excitement, energy and passion that goes into that future day.
Now, granted, death is not an exciting topic, but what if God painted us a picture of that future destination? What if he painted a picture that excites us – a picture that makes us look forward to going home? Revelation gives us a glimpse of that future: it’s a place where God lives amongst His people, a place where “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain.” This passage even goes on to say that all these things will be gone forever (Rev 21:4). It is a place where – as Paul the apostle said – “to die is gain” (Phil 1:21).
This is the future we get to look forward to, where everything is new.
