Prayer & Fasting Day 1 – Family

For this reason I kneel before the father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name.
– Ephesians 3:14-15

One of my favourite times of the year is Christmas. Gingerbread candles, fairy lights and gammon toasties.  But the absolute best part is the abundant family time that is just part and parcel of this special time of the year.  Family is the gift of relationships, which bring joy and love to our lives.

Maybe this past festive season you did not experience great joy, but rather found yourself missing a loved one who is no longer with you.  While everyone was thinking about presents, you were thinking about a missed presence.

From our verse in Ephesians, we see that as Christians we are one family residing in one of two places, either on earth or already in eternity.  We can take such assurance from the fact that temporary loss does not mean something has been lost. In fact, we get to look forward to a beautiful family reunion one day.

I’m grateful that we get to worship a good God who is a father to us all, and from whom our whole family derives its name.

Question for reflection:

What can you give God thanks for when it comes to the area of family in your life? What are you trusting him for in this area?
