5-Day Devotional: KNOW JESUS

“Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” — John 17:3 (NIV)

Day 1 — Eternal Life Is a Relationship, Not a Destination

Scripture
John 17:3 (NIV)

Devotional Thought
Most people assume eternal life begins after death. Jesus says it begins now.
On the night before the cross—when eternity should have been on His mind—
Jesus doesn’t describe heaven, rewards, or escape from suffering. Instead, He
defines eternal life as knowing God.
That’s a radical shift.

Eternal life is not primarily about where you go when you die, but who you are in
relationship with while you live.

Religion often becomes a safety net:
• A ticket to heaven
• A way to avoid judgment
• A fallback plan when life goes wrong

But God’s heartbeat has never been, “How do I get people out of the world?”
It has always been, “How do I get Myself back into their lives?”

Eternity is not just about duration.
It’s about meaning.
And meaning is found in relationship.

Reflection Questions

  • If someone asked you, “What is the goal of your faith?” how would you answer honestly?
  • Have you ever treated God more like a solution than a relationship?

Prayer
“Father, forgive me for shrinking eternal life down to a future destination. I want to
know You—not just believe in You. Reframe my faith around relationship, not
escape. Amen.”

Practice
Today, pause and say out loud:
“Eternal life begins now—because God is with me now.”

Day 2 — Knowing God Begins With Revelation

Scripture
John 17:6 (NIV)
“I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world.”

Devotional Thought
You cannot truly know someone unless they reveal themselves to you.
Jesus says He reveals the Father—not hides Him, not hints at Him, not obscures
Him. Revelation means to uncover, to pull back the curtain, to disclose what was
previously unseen.

Paul knew about God.
He studied Scripture.
He defended religion.
Yet it wasn’t until Jesus revealed Himself that everything changed.

Revelation isn’t just new information—it’s a new vision.
A moment where God is no longer theoretical but personal.
No longer assumed but encountered.

For some, revelation is sudden and dramatic.
For others, it unfolds slowly, like dawn breaking over time.
But everyone who truly knows God has had this moment:
“I see Him differently now.”

Reflection Questions

  • Do you know God mainly by assumption, tradition, or personal encounter?
  • Where do you need God to “pull back the curtain” in your understanding of Him?

Prayer
“Jesus, reveal the Father to me again. Strip away my assumptions, my projections,
and my religious habits. I want to see God for who He truly is. Amen.”

Practice
Before reading Scripture today, pray simply:
“God, show me who You are.”

Day 3 — Intimacy Requires Confession of the True God

Scripture
John 17:3 (NIV)
“…that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”

Devotional Thought
You cannot have intimacy with an edited God.
Many people want a version of God they are comfortable with:
• A God who never confronts
• A God who always affirms
• A God shaped by culture, preference, or convenience

But intimacy only exists where truth exists.
Jesus doesn’t leave room for “custom-built” faith.
He speaks clearly:
• There is one true God
• Jesus is fully God revealed

Anything less becomes idolatry—creating God in our image instead of letting Him
remake us in His.

Just like a relationship built on a fake identity can never be real, a relationship with
a fictional god can never transform.

True faith begins with confession:
“This is who God really is—and I submit to that truth.”

Reflection Questions

  • Are there aspects of God you avoid or downplay because they make you uncomfortable?
  • Have you ever reshaped God to fit your preferences?

Prayer
“God, I surrender my edited versions of You. I confess You as the one true God,
revealed fully in Jesus Christ. Let truth—not comfort—be the foundation of my faith.
Amen.”

Practice
Slowly read a historic confession of faith (like the Nicene Creed) and let it reanchor
your understanding of who God is.

Day 4 — Knowing God Is an Ongoing Journey of Intimacy

Scripture
Philippians 3:10 (NIV)
“I want to know Christ…”

Devotional Thought
The word Jesus uses for know is ginōskō—an intimate, experiential knowing.
This isn’t surface-level familiarity.
It’s relational depth.
Shared life.
Ongoing discovery.

You don’t “finish” knowing God any more than you finish knowing a person you
love. You grow in intimacy through:
• Time
• Presence
• Shared experiences

God doesn’t want to be your spare tyre—used only when everything else fails.
He wants to be included in your ordinary, everyday life.

Intimacy grows when:
• You open Scripture not for answers, but for encounter
• You pray not just to speak, but to listen
• You invite God into work, decisions, conversations, and emotions

Knowing God is not an event.
It’s a relationship that deepens over time.

Reflection Questions

  • What currently shapes your intimacy with God the most?
  • Where have you unintentionally left God out of your everyday life?

Prayer
“God, I don’t want to just know about You—I want to know You. Teach me to
include You in every part of my life, not just my spiritual moments. Amen.”

Practice
Invite God into one ordinary activity today and consciously acknowledge His
presence there.

Day 5 — Obedience Is the Fruit of Knowing God

Scripture
John 8:31 (NLT)
“You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings.”

Devotional Thought
Knowing God always produces fruit.
Not perfection—but transformation.
Not performance—but obedience born out of love.

The Bible is clear:
Faith that doesn’t shape how we live is incomplete.
Obedience isn’t how we earn relationship—it’s how relationship expresses itself.

When you truly know God:
• Your desires begin to shift
• Your responses change
• The fruit of the Spirit becomes visible

Obedience isn’t about rule-keeping.
It’s about alignment.
It’s living in step with the One you know.

The real question is not:
“Do I believe in God?”
But:
“Is my life being shaped by the God I claim to know?”

Reflection Questions

  • What fruit is currently visible in your life?
  • Is there an area where obedience feels difficult right now?

Prayer
“Lord, I want my life to reflect that I know You. Produce Your fruit in me through
Your Spirit. Help me obey—not out of fear, but out of love. Amen.”

Practice
Ask God:
“What is one step of obedience You’re inviting me into?”
Then take it.

Final Reflection
What is the goal of your faith—escape from hell, or intimacy with God?
Because according to Jesus, eternal life begins the moment you truly know Him.
