Day 1 – You Are a New Creation
“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” – 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)
Devotional Thought:
When you came to Christ, God didn’t just renovate your life—He made you brand new. You are not a patched-up version of your old self; you are a completely new creation. Your past mistakes, failures, and old ways of living no longer define you. Your new identity is rooted in who God says you are, not in what you’ve done or what others have said about you.
The world says you have to “earn” your identity—through performance, appearance, or success. But in Christ, you simply receive it. You’re already accepted, loved, and valued—before you’ve done anything to “deserve” it.
Reflection Questions:
- What old labels or identities have you been holding onto that God wants you to release?
- How does knowing you are a “new creation” change the way you see yourself today?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for making me a new creation in Christ. Help me to let go of my old identity and walk fully in the new life You have given me.
Action Step:
Write down three lies you’ve believed about your identity and replace them with three truths from God’s Word.
Day 2 – You Have a New Name and a New Nature
…You will be given a new name by the Lord’s own mouth. – Isaiah 62:2 (NLT)
…I will give to each one a white stone, and on the stone will be engraved a new name that no one understands except the one who receives it. – Revelation 2:17 (NLT)
Devotional Thought:
In the Bible, when God wanted to establish a new identity for someone, He often gave them a new name—Abram became Abraham, Sarai became Sarah, Jacob became Israel, Simon became Peter. Each new name marked a change in their calling and future.
When you came to Christ, you were given more than a new name—you were given a new nature. Your identity is no longer tied to your past sins, failures, or family history. Instead, you are now clothed in Christ’s righteousness.
Reflection Questions:
- If God renamed you today to reflect your new identity, what might that name be?
- What part of your “old nature” do you still struggle to let go of?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for giving me a new nature. Help me to live as the person You have called me to be, not the person I used to be.
Action Step:
Choose one declaration from your sermon (“I am not what I did… I am who God says I am…”) and speak it over yourself every morning this week.
Day 3 – You Are an Image Bearer, Not an Image Creator
So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. – Genesis 1:27 (NLT)
Devotional Thought:
The world tells you to “create yourself” — to define your own truth, your own identity, your own worth. But Scripture tells you that your identity isn’t something you create; it’s something you reflect. You were made to bear God’s image, not to build your own.
Think of a mirror—it doesn’t produce an image; it reflects one. When you understand that you were created to reflect God’s love, truth, and holiness, it takes the pressure off. You don’t have to reinvent yourself—you simply need to reflect Him.
Reflection Questions:
- Are there areas in your life where you’ve been trying to create your own identity apart from God?\
- What would it look like for you to reflect God more clearly in your everyday life?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for making me in Your image. Help me to stop striving to create an identity for myself and instead live to reflect You.
Action Step:
Ask one trusted friend or family member to share how they see God’s character reflected in your life.
Day 4 – Shedding the Old and Putting On the New
Throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life… let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. – Ephesians 4:22-24 (NLT)
Devotional Thought:
Your identity in Christ is both positional (who you are in Him) and practical (how you live it out). You can’t walk in your new life while wearing the clothes of your old one. That’s why Scripture calls us to “throw off” our old sinful nature and put on the new one.
This process—called sanctification—means letting the Holy Spirit renew your mind daily. It’s about continually unlearning the lies of your past and learning to live in the truth of who you are in Christ.
Reflection Questions:
- What “old clothes” (habits, attitudes, thought patterns) do you need to throw off?
- How can you invite the Holy Spirit to renew your mind today?
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, help me to daily throw off my old self and put on the new nature You’ve given me. Renew my thoughts and attitudes so that I can reflect Jesus more fully.
Action Step:
Choose one old habit you know doesn’t reflect your new identity. Prayerfully commit to replacing it with a godly habit this week.
Day 5 – Living in the Fullness of Your New Identity
…He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing… loved us… adopted us… accepted us… redeemed us… forgiven us… and showered us with kindness. – Ephesians 1:3-8 (NLT)
Devotional Thought:
Your new identity comes with incredible privileges—you are created, loved, adopted, accepted, free, forgiven, and favoured. This is not just your status in heaven; it’s your reality here and now.
Living in this fullness means declaring these truths over your life and walking in confidence, not in shame. It means no longer defining yourself by your past, your failures, or what others think—but by what God has said.
Reflection Questions:
- Which truth from Ephesians 1 do you need to believe more deeply? (Loved, adopted, accepted, free, forgiven, favoured)
- How would your life look different if you truly lived from this identity?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for every spiritual blessing You’ve given me in Christ. Help me to live boldly and joyfully in the truth of my new identity.
Action Step:
Write out all seven truths from Ephesians 1 and put them somewhere you’ll see every day—like your mirror, phone, or workspace. Speak them aloud daily.
